A Walk Along The Bude Canal

Helebridge (Marhamchurch) was built
 in the 1820's.

Bude had three swing bridges, the first being built in 1820.
The permanent structure was opened in 1962 making the upper basin inaccessible to shipping.

These lock gates are the only manually
sea lock gates in England that open directly into the Atlantic Ocean. The pier head near the locks is a grade a listed building. Ships using the sea locks
brought cargos of merchandise in.

From the sea locks to Helebridge, (the first part of the canal) is still useable today for rowing, fishing and walking.
